Diary Entry #2 - h8rs gonna h8
Neena BrostowskiDear Diary,
Sometimes I am really disappointed in humanity.
We have all this capacity to love, lift each other up and make a positive impact but some humans are cut throat and only seek to destroy others and do harm.
A local (Halifax) influencer, that I follow, recently posted a series about how she is utilizing her vision board paired with AI technology to help her find a husband. She is finally ready to embark on this journey and I think it is fantastic that she is utilizing AI tools such as ChatGPT to get in tune with her higher self and achieve her goals… but the amount of hate and backlash she has received is absolutely shocking and disgusting.
It’s already hard enough to put yourself out there but to do so publicly takes a wealth of courage. People are commenting hateful and negative things on her content but now lines are being crossed. A YouTuber has taken it upon himself to publicly shame her to his audience of 476 thousand subscribers. This man has the audacity to call her fat and ugly among other distasteful things. How is this kind of behavior okay? This man, who looks to be about the age of someone who could be her father, thought it was completely okay to do this. Why are people not held accountable for their actions? I hope karma makes a play and soon because this is absolutely heartbreaking to see.
This takes me back to how I felt in high-school when I was publicly bullied over Twitter (now X) by someone who was actually close to me and was supposed to be a dear friend. I was shamed using an image from a family Facebook post regarding my weight and body image. Weight and body image are such tough things to navigate and at almost 28 I still face issues with these very same things today.
My heart goes out to this creator and I applaud her fans for sticking up for her. I can never wrap my head around when people choose to do things so vile.
I wish we lived in a world where empathy and kindness were default settings, where people could celebrate the courage it takes to be vulnerable instead of tearing each other down. To this creator: I see your strength, your creativity, and your determination, and I hope you never let the negativity overshadow your light.
To anyone reading this who has ever faced similar hate: remember that the opinions of the unkind say more about them than they ever will about you. Let their cruelty fuel your resilience.
And to myself, and anyone else who carries scars from past wounds: we are not defined by the words or actions of others. We are worthy of love, respect, and every good thing this life has to offer.
Let’s be the change we want to see—lifting others, spreading kindness, and standing firm against hate. The world desperately needs it.
Here’s to choosing love and kindness, always. Sending love and light your way, wherever you are! ❤️
xoxo,
Neena
